More Good Halloween Movies

Last month I’d asked Greg (Zigory) about posting some of his favorite Halloween films since he seems to have good music and film suggestions on his blog. 🙂
And he came up with quite a list! He wrote that Mrs. Zigory (his wife) suggests “Arsenic and Old Lace”. God, what a fabulous movie! Halloween isn’t right without watching it! … The crazy old aunts, strangers coming in to the home and strange things happening, and of course… the hilarious “Teddy”!

As I was hanging out with my family over the weekend watching “The Office“ (season 2) and discussing Halloween movies, we decided to create a list to share as well. Some are also listed on Greg’s list (and there are a number I’ve added to our rental list). Â

Our list is in no specific order, other than the fact that I have placed “Arsenic and Old Lace” at the top.

1. “Arsenic and Old Lace”
2. “Saturday the 14th
3. “Shaun of the Dead” (You will come away laughing!)
4. “Young Frankenstein“ (The whole cast is amazing! Madeline Kahn is unforgettable!)
5. “Bram Stoker’s Dracula“ (Beautifully filmed! The first movie I’d ever seen Gary Oldman star in – and is he ever talented!!!)
6. “The Cell“ (What some twisted human beings are capable of… much less the whole plot of this movie …gives me nightmares)
7. “Nightmare Before Christmas“ (Tim Burton is terrific and the music by Danny Elfman is brilliant!)
8. “Hocus Pocus“ (Funny! Good for the whole family)
9. “The Witches of Eastwick“ (Another hilarious film! I couldn’t eat cherries for a while there myself.)
10. “The Others“ (I really like Nicole Kidman anyway, and this film is verrry creepy! A surprise ending)
11. “Identity“ (Another psychological thriller. The story is strange and shocking.)
12. “Burnt Offerings“Â (I haven’t seen this one in years, but remember the nightmares it gave me as a kid.)
13. “The Andromeda Strain”
14. “The Thing
15. “Frankenthumb“ (This is one of our family “Thumb” favorites done by Steve Oedekerk. “Let’s get the torches!”)
16. “The Omen“ (My husband would love a rottweiler. The dogs scared me so much in this movie as a kid – that there is no way!)
17. “Rosemary’s Baby”
18. “The Birds
19. “Psycho
20. “The Shining“ (I borrowed the book – wasn’t supposed to have – so I sort of snuck reading it when I was a little girl. Not a good idea for a kid to read – much less see the movie.)

Blog Changes

I’ve made a few blog changes. Most are not apparent. Some are temporary and some are not.

At some point I will figure out how to allow comments again. It seems when I have tried I’ve gotten loads of computer generated spam filling my “inbox”. Buggers.

If you’re popping by (here) for the first time … Hello to you! 🙂
If you’ve popped in (here) every now and then … Hello again! 🙂

In the near future I will have some posts on fashion trends 2006/2007, as well as home interior decorating trends and paint color. So see you around!

Jane Austen on audio books

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of work with my hands and haven’t had enough time to pick up a book and read. So I’ve done the next best thing by listening to audio books as I’m painting or working on other tasks. Currently I am listening to an unabridged version of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

I will probably buy the book to read in order toÂgain an even betterÂidea of some of the visuals you see in your”mind’s eye”Âsometimes while reading.

I’m a big Jane Austen fan and Northanger Abbey is going on my “must own” list! I see it’s also been made in to a movie and will add that to my list as well.

Have a terrific weekend! 🙂

Organic Garden Remedies

Recently I noticed a bit of black spot on some of my Indian Hawthorn and Holly shrubs. This is a fungus disease and if you don’t nip it in the bud it can spread and cause problems on aÂlarge scale in the garden. I’ve also noticed some aphid residue on other plants. On some plants, particularly Hibiscus, if there are aphids thereÂis also sometimes scale. Scale and aphid residue can also lead to a messy ant problem.

I’ve found a couple of recipes for homemade organic garden remedies. Since I am a bit of a worrier about burning the plants, I will start of with weaker solutions than the recipes call for. In the past I have sprayed insecticidal soap on the plants and before the heat of the day have rinsed them just as well.

*Insecticidal Soap Recipe given on Daves Garden (Lots of good information for all kinds of gardening questions throughout the year.)
*Fungicidal Soap Recipe from Lucky Lizard Ranch (Scroll down toward the bottom – there are other organic recipes available on this link as well.)
